DO EARLY BIRDS REALLY CATCH WORMS?

Sitting in the office last week I turned to my colleague Ginnie and said “It’s almost 2017 but the millennium seems like it was only a year or two ago!” What prompted this slightly depressing observation was that we are already taking bookings for next summer.

As someone who can barely manage to plan what I am doing next weekend I am always amazed that anyone is organised enough to plan holidays over a year in advance.

So what are the benefits of booking a holiday so far in advance? Well, if you are a large group it makes sense to decide on dates as soon as possible and as the big villas tend to get booked well in advance it is advisable to reserve your first choice as early as possible. It is also often the case that flights are more affordable the earlier you book.

For me, thinking three months ahead is an ordeal but I suspect I might come unstuck. Over the last few years we have all got used to the idea of last minute holiday bargains so have held off booking until very late but we sense that this might not be the case this summer.  For a variety of reasons popular holiday spots have changed over the last couple of years and those places which might have been our first choice are no longer so. Portugal has once again become one of THE most popular destinations for family holidays, with the Algarve at the top of the list.

Inevitably, this means that flight prices to Faro are going up and up. We advise our clients to look at flights to Lisbon…

…or even Seville in Spain – with excellent roads neither of these places are too far from the Algarve and flights are often far, far less.

We still have availability for the school summer holidays but with booking numbers up by around 25% they are going fast.

One or two of our properties do have special offers – for example Mill Reef – a stunning villa for 12 in Carvoeiro has a massive £1,000 a week off peak season dates and the popular Casa Sirrah, also in Carvoeiro, has 15% off for bookings in May and June.

The Balearic Islands are also proving popular this summer with many holiday makers heading for Mallorca and Ibiza. We have a special offer on one of our most beautiful Ibizan villas – the beautiful Sky which has 20% off some weeks.

So does it make sense to book a long way in advance or not? Our feeling is that for Summer 2016 the sooner you are able to decide the better and whilst there are no worms to be caught you might just save disappointment if you are unable to find the right holiday later on.  If you are organised enough to know when you want to holiday next year then we can often confirm villas now at 2016 rates.

Whatever you decide, we look forward to talking to you, either on the phone +44 1273 747811 or by email mail@thevillaagency.co.uk

Hope to hear from you soon.
