Best Beaches in Hvar
May 7, 2025
Planning a villa holiday in Hvar? Then you’ll want to know where to find the island’s most stunning stretches of sand. From hidden coves to lively beach clubs, Hvar’s coastline has something for everyone – and the calm, clear waters are perfect for swimming, snorkelling, or simply soaking up the Adriatic sun. To help you make the most of your stay, we’ve rounded up the best beaches in Hvar – including the highlights of each, so you can plan the perfect family beach day with ease.
Dubovica Beach
One of the better-known beaches in Hvar, Dubovica Beach, is located just 15 minutes from Hvar Town. This picturesque stretch of pebbled coastline features sparkling water gently lapping the shore. While Hvar has many beaches, not all are easily accessible – this one in particular requires visitors to either drive or take a taxi. Parking is limited, but as a result, the beach rarely gets too busy. After parking, there’s a steep but manageable walk down to the beach. Dubovica is simple in its offerings – no beach bars or cafes, just plenty of space to relax and soak up the sun and sea. That’s exactly why it’s so well known for being one of the most scenic spots in the area. Be sure to bring everything you need for the day, as there are no shops, and the uphill walk back takes about 15 minutes. Settle in for a full day by the water.
Pakleni Islands
A highlight of Hvar, the Pakleni Islands are a collection of tiny, rocky islets just off the coast. Only a short boat ride from Hvar Town, “Pakleni” translates to “Hell Islands,” though that doesn’t at all reflect reality. These islands are paradise – idyllic beaches with some of the best snorkelling in Croatia. You’ll also find beach bars and cafes for refreshment. Known for their pristine nature, the islands offer perfect conditions for swimming, sunbathing, and spotting marine life with a pair of goggles. Protected since 1968, the islands form part of an ecological network, preserving their untouched beauty. These islands are, without a doubt, home to some of the best beaches in Hvar. While it’s essential to leave the environment as you found it, the Pakleni Islands are the ideal spot to immerse yourself in the natural splendour of Hvar.
Zarace Beach
For something a little different, Zarace Beach is a small, pebbled and partially sandy beach tucked beneath the abandoned village of Zarace, perched on a rocky cliff like a nest in the sky. A well-kept secret, it’s often only known to those who’ve been tipped off about it – and while it can be tricky to find, it’s well worth the effort. Accessible by both car and boat, the beach is served by a few restaurants, making it easy to spend the whole day there. Note that the road is winding, and there’s a bit of a walk down, but a metal staircase built into the cliff helps ease the descent. Quiet and relatively small, the beach is breathtakingly romantic, framed by a tiny harbour and crystal-clear turquoise water.

Mlini Beach
Ideal for families with children, Mlini Beach is clean, well-maintained, and surrounded by a lush pine forest. The clear, shallow water is perfect for less confident swimmers, and the beach’s larger size means there’s plenty of room to spread out. Sun loungers are available for hire, and nearby cafes and bars offer food and drinks throughout the day. Free toilet facilities are also available, and the beach is accessible by boat taxi.
Whether you’re after serene solitude, family-friendly fun, or a laid-back beach bar vibe, Hvar’s beaches offer something for everyone. With crystal-clear waters, dramatic landscapes, and hidden coves waiting to be explored, your perfect beach day is never far away.
