Brac Island is a stunning island on the Dalmatian Coast in Croatia, with a number of ways to access it by various means of transport, all dependent on personal preference and price point.
The best way to reach Brac Island by plane is to fly to either Split or Dubrovnik airports, the closest local and international airports to Brac. From here, visitors will need to book a taxi, hop on a bus, or hire a car to reach Markarska or Split ferry station, where regular ferries go to and from Brac. Both ferries from Markarska to Sumartin and Split to Supetar take cars on board. From Split, catamarans for passengers only (no cars) travel to Bol and Milna.
We have a hire car partner located in the airport, who will be waiting for you at the airport and take you through any paperwork before directing you to your vehicle. GPS coordinates and instructions to reach the villa are provided by us, and it is all designed to be as simple as possible.
For those who prefer a more relaxed arrival, we also offer taxi transfers directly from the airport to your villa. Fully insured drivers will meet you at Arrivals and take you straight to the ferry station or villa of your choice.
The best route to Brac Island by car varies on the direction of travel. Depending on where you are coming from, you either need to go through Zagreb to Split or Makarska via the main Croatian highway A1, or you can drive along the coast. From Split, you can take the ferry to Supetar on Brac, which takes around an hour, or the ferry from Makarska to Sumartin, which is around the same. More details on boat crossings below.
There are buses which connect the whole country so it is possible to reach Brac Island by bus wherever you’re coming from. Connections run from most big cities to Split and the ferry station is right across from the main bus stop. Hop off and hop on to a ferry to Supetar, or continue by bus to Makarska to hop on a boat to Sumartin.
Arriving in Split by train is ideal for getting to Brac Island, since the train station is just across from the ferry. Here, get on a ferry to reach Supetar, or continue by bus to Makarska to get the Sumartin ferry. Regular trains run between Split and other major cities, including Zagreb.
Most journeys to Brac Island require a brief sea journey, with the choice of ferry port dependent on where your villa stay is specifically. Split and Makarska both run ferry services to Brac, and there are a number of ferries each day, as well as catamarans, which you can hop on to. From Split, ferries travel to Supetar. From Makarska, ferries go to Sumartin. From Split, catamarans travel to Bol and Milna. Tickets cost around €7 per person and €50 per car. All ferries are operated by Jadrolinija d.o.o. Catamarans are operated by either Jadrolinija d.o.o. or Kapetan Luka. It is also possible to hire a private boat transfer.
