The East Algarve is a beautiful region in the south of Portugal and is accessible by a number of transport options, depending on personal preference and price point.
The most efficient way to reach the East Algarve is by flying into Faro Airport, the main gateway to the Algarve. From here, getting to your villa is simple. We have a hire car partner located at the airport, who can expedite the process of getting your hands on a vehicle, collecting you from the airport and taking you to their office where you can complete any paperwork. GPS coordinates and instructions to reach the villa are provided by us, and it is all designed to be as simple as possible.
For those who prefer a more relaxed arrival, we also offer taxi transfers directly from the airport to your villa. Fully insured drivers will meet you at arrivals and take you straight to your destination. Taxi prices are listed on each villa page. If you’d like a hire car delivered to your villa later in your stay, we can arrange that too. Simply choose the option that best suits your needs, and we’ll handle the rest!
Depending on your starting point, there are a number of ways to get to the East Algarve by car. The A2 motorway connects Lisbon to the Algarve and passes directly through Faro, so it is the easiest option when coming from north to south. From Seville, Spain, to Faro the journey is also fairly straightforward, with the east to west A22 motorway connecting the two and taking around 2 hours to drive.
There are many bus options from key locations in Spain and Portugal which go directly to the Faro region. These include FlixBus and Alsa Coaches.
It is possible to reach East Algarve by train; however, this is slightly less reliable than other options and requires investment in ensuring that the services are running at the time of your arrival. The Algarve Line (Linha do Algarve) is the main railway route and runs along the south coast of Portugal, including the Interregional special service which travels between major cities and stops at Faro. This would likely require further transport plans, following arrival at Faro, to arrive at your villa.
Getting to East Algarve by boat is also an option, with the ease depending on where your villa stay is specifically. There are a number of public ferries that can be used to travel between ports in the Algarve, including Faro, Tavira, and Olhão. Should you choose to arrive by boat, it is still an option to have a hire car delivered to the door of your villa, so you can continue to explore on land.
Note also that there are other options once in East Algarve, including local taxis and Uber.

There are food options in the region suitable for every price point. For those wanting to be friendly to their wallets, there are options that are economical, with alcohol prices starting at €1.50 and meals costing approximately €20-25 depending on the restaurant.
East Algarve as a region is well-known for its seafood, mainly fish and shellfish. Here, you can find the finest the Algarve has to offer, with fresh and delicious Mediterranean classics served up in many eateries along the coast.
