Holiday Villas in Lanzarote, Spain

Sitting on the eastern edge of Spain’s Canary Islands, Lanzarote is a dream destination for sun-seekers and adventure lovers, thanks to its breathtaking landscapes, sweeping beaches and near-constant sunshine. Lanzarote’s volcanic terrain is something special. Black lava fields and dramatic rock formations stand in contrast to whitewashed homes and the deep blue water of the Atlantic.

Beyond its beautiful scenery, there’s plenty for holidaymakers to explore, from the moon-like expanse of Timanfaya National Park to the unique vineyards of La Geria, where vines grow in volcanic soil. The island’s artistic and historical heritage shines through in stunning landmarks like Jameos del Agua, an underground grotto, as well as its many museums showcasing both art and artefacts.

If you’re the active type, you’ll love hiking volcanic trails, surfing world-class waves, or diving into the crystal-clear sea teeming with marine life. Prefer a slower pace? Unwind on the soft sands of Playa Blanca and Famara, or soak up the laid-back atmosphere in Arrieta.

From fresh seafood feasts to hidden caves and incredible beach sunsets, Lanzarote is the kind of place that sticks with you long after you’ve left. Ready to explore the sun-soaked island?

Things we love…
Lanzarote is simply wonderfulits UNESCO-protected landscapes feel like something from another planet, yet it’s easy to explore. Whether it’s a road-trip across volcanic plains, wandering through fishing villages and tucking into fresh seafood, or just enjoying the islands unbeatable weather with a cold drink in hand, there’s something for everyone.
Things to be aware of…
Lanzarote’s sunshine is no joke, especially in the peak summer months. June, July and August can get very hot, so visitors should carefully plan their excursions and stay hydrated while protecting themselves from the sun. Some remote areas don’t have many shops nearby, so it’s always a good idea to stock up before heading out.

Best Time to Visit Lanzarote

Lanzarote is a year-round destination, thanks to its warm weather, stunning landscapes and endless outdoor activities. No matter what you’re looking for sunny beach days, outdoor adventures, or cultural experienceseach season on the island offers something unique. But when is the best time to visit Lanzarote? That depends on what kind of trip you’re after!

How to get to Lanzarote

There are many ways to get to Lanzarote depending on your starting point, budget, and preferences.

By plane:

Getting to Lanzarote by plane is the easiest option, with direct flights from a number of UK and European cities all flying directly to the island. A flight from London to Lanzarote takes about 4 hours and 15 minutes, and the airport is located on the south side of the island. A number of airlines offer this journey, so there are options depending on price and preference. If you are keen to have a car on the island, many visitors fly and then rent a car when arriving, making the journey a lot shorter than bringing your car with you.

 By car:

Since Lanzarote is an island in the Canary Islands, it isn’t possible to drive directly to the island by car. However, you can get to Lanzarote with your car by taking a ferry from another Canary Island or mainland Spain.

Arriving in Cadiz, for example, means that visitors can drive cars directly onto awaiting ferries at the port, however, this journey takes a while, usually around 26 hours. Ferries on this route operate regularly throughout the week, just be sure to check departure times to avoid any annoying waits.

Similarly, for those already in the Canary Islands, ferries between the islands run multiple times throughout the week and can be an easy way to get to Lanzarote by car. Ferries are operated by a variety of companies, and tickets can be booked online or at the ferry terminal in advance to secure a space for your car.

By bus:

As with driving, getting to Lanzarote by bus is not possible directly. However, you can take a bus to the nearest ferry port on the mainland (or another Canary Island) and then take a ferry to Lanzarote. As with driving, heading to Cadiz is the best option for those travelling by bus from the mainland. From cities like Madrid or Seville, buses run regularly to Cadiz, and from there you can hop on a ferry to Lanzarote itself.

Most bus routes will take you to the ferry terminal, and then you’ll continue your journey by ferry to Lanzarote. Once on the island, you can use Lanzarote’s local buses to get around and explore the island.

By train:

Unfortunately, it is not possible to reach Lanzarote directly by train, however, you can take a train as part of your journey to get to a ferry port on the mainland before taking a boat to Lanzarote. As with the other land-based travelling options, if you’re coming from mainland Spain, heading to Cadiz is best. Visitors can take a train to the southern port of Cadiz, and from cities like Madrid or Seville you can take both high-speed trains and regional trains. Once in Cadiz, you can board a ferry to Lanzarote, which takes about 26 hours.

By boat:

Other than arriving by plane, journeying to Lanzarote will require a boat trip at some point in the journey. There are many routes you may take by boat, depending on your starting point and your budget. The most common route is travelling from Cadiz (in southern Spain) to Lanzarote by ferry. The ferry ride takes about 26 hours, and there are regular services. You can bring a vehicle on the ferry if you want to explore the island by car.

Additionally, travel between the islands by boat is very common, and ferry routes run between Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Fuerteventura to Lanzarote.

If you’re travelling with your own boat or yacht, Lanzarote has several marinas where you can dock.
