Family Activities in Ibiza
April 16, 2024
It may be known as the party island of the Balearics, but Ibiza is also a fantastic destination for families. With plenty of beaches (over 80, in fact) and attractions, there’s a whole lot of fun to be had for all ages on this sun-soaked island in Spain. We know that planning a trip with children can be a challenge, so we’ve put together our expert guide to family activities in Ibiza. As well as kicking back in your private family-friendly villa, there are plenty of adventures to be had in Ibiza with your little ones.
Visit Ibiza’s hippy markets
Since the early 60s, the island’s laid-back atmosphere and bohemian spirit have led to quirky markets popping up across the island, perfect for an excursion as a family. One such market is Las Dalias, one of the best hippy markets in Ibiza, where colourful clothing and crafts are sold with a smile. Es Caná’s weekly Punta Arabi market is the island’s oldest and largest hippy market, where over 500 artisans, designers and craftsmen display their wares. There are live performances in the afternoon, and they even have a kids’ area where children can get their faces painted, make flower crowns and create their own T-shirts.
Explore Cap Blanc Aquarium
Children of all ages will love a visit to the Cap Blanc Aquarium, a unique underground aquarium located on the west side of the island. Situated in an ancient smuggler’s grotto, also known as ‘Lobster Cave,’ this unique aquarium showcases a diverse array of Mediterranean marine life, including octopus, rays, and lobsters. Once used as a storage tank for lobsters by fishermen, the cavernous interiors now also serve as a recuperation centre for injured sea turtles before their release back into the wild. Children can explore the cave, spot colourful fish and learn fascinating animal facts to share with their friends. Afterwards, families can enjoy refreshments at a small cafe overlooking the sea.

Discover Cova de Can Marçà
Explore the wonders of Cova de Can Marçà, nestled in the picturesque natural surroundings of northern Ibiza. This remarkable cave, boasting a history spanning over 100,000 years, was once used by smugglers to conceal their illicit goods. Evidence of their presence remains etched on the walls, guiding visitors through the dark passages. Since the 1980s, the cave has become one of the island’s major tourist attractions. Children will delight in exploring the labyrinthine of chambers, while the cool interior provides respite from the midday heat. Witness breathtaking stalactites and ancient markings illuminated in an atmospheric light show at the end.

Hit the Beach
Ibiza has over 80 beaches to choose from, which come in all shapes and sizes. In addition to sandy bays perfect for paddling, there are secret coves where rockpools teem with marine life – a sure hit when travelling to Ibiza with children. Cala Llonga is loved for its calm waters and good selection of amenities, while another favourite for family holidays in Ibiza is Playa d’en Bossa – the longest stretch of silky white sand on the island. With banana boats, pedalos, water skis and kayaks available, it’s one of the best beaches for water sports in Ibiza.
Relax at a Beach Bar
Going on holiday with little ones doesn’t necessarily mean you have to give up a relaxing afternoon at the beach club. Some of Ibiza’s beach clubs have special kids’ areas where you can leave them to play while you have a moment to yourself. Popular beach clubs with facilities for the little ones include El Chiringuito on Es Cavallet Beach and Beachouse in Playa d’En Bossa. As well as tasty, kid-friendly menus, they also offer the chance for kids to draw, paint, do crafts and hang out with other children.

Have Fun at Acrobosc Ibiza
Experience the thrill of Acrobosc Ibiza, set in a pine forest just 100 metres from Cala Pada beach. Offering an exhilarating blend of zip lines and climbing courses, this outdoor adventure park promises an unforgettable experience for both children and adults alike. Known as Ibiza’s answer to the UK’s Go Ape, Acrobosc Ibiza boasts a diverse range of activities suitable for adventurers aged 3 and above. From zip wires to treetop walkways and challenging obstacles, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. With varying levels of difficulty and expertly trained staff on hand, parents can join in the excitement without hesitation. It’s time to unleash your inner Tarzan and swing into action!

Stroll around Ibiza Castle
If you are venturing into Ibiza Town, you can’t miss Ibiza Castle with exceptional panoramic views over the sea and the city. Be warned that you need to climb a few steps to reach the top of the fortress, so young children might find this a bit challenging. However, the reward of an incredible view is worth it. Entrance to the castle is free and involves lots of little alleys with cafes and restaurants. If you are in the neighbourhood and you have finished dinner with the family, it is worth visiting the fortress before sunset to guarantee a beautiful view with lots of photo opportunities.
Take a Boat Trip
When holidaying on an island, it would be rude not to take at least one boat trip with the family. It’s not just booze-filled party boats either – there are plenty of family-friendly options to take you around Ibiza’s beautiful coastline. Discover intriguing sea caves, stop to swim or snorkel in turquoise waters, explore deserted beaches, keep an eye out for dolphins and sail to neighbouring islands like Formentera, just south of Ibiza. This island makes for a lovely day trip and only takes 30 minutes to sail from Port d’Eivissa. There are even themed boat trips specifically with kids in mind – when else do you get the chance to step aboard a pirate ship?
