Hvar Island, Croatia

The island of Hvar is approximately 68kms long and unlike other islands in the region has fresh water springs. It’s hillsides are covered in pine forests with vineyards, olive groves, fruit orchards and fragrant lavender fields. The climate is perfect with mild winters and warm summer and with around 11,000 occupants Hvar is the 4th most populated of the Croatian islands.

wide harbour has a long seaside promenade, dotted with small rocky beaches where the mega-yachts vie for space as the rich and famous flock to this most attractive island. Hvar town has been compared to Ibiza – we think that is stretching it a little but there are certainly some great bars and summer clubs, many with waterfront bars, lounges and terraces with wicker sofas, imaginative cocktails and sun-tanned, often A list, celebrities. There are also more informal wooden beach bars with fabulous sunset views and chill out areas.

Hvar produces some excellent wines – the best reds come from the south coast and the best whites from the northern side. The air is filled with the scent of lavender which is sold in most of the islands shops.
